National Gov't fosters BA City 'scoring system'
The national government extended the scoring punishment scheme for drivers, which has been functioning in the Buenos Aires City since 2008, to the whole territory according to decree 423/2011 published today in the Official Gazette.
The decree establishes that as of 60 days from today, all drivers within the national territory will be granted with 20 scoring points. Points will be discounted upon traffic infractions, and drivers licenses will be cancelled once the driver gets to zero points.
All 20 points will be discounted from those who participate in illegal urban races as well those who drive with an expired license
Those driving under the influence of alcohol will lose 10 points automatically.
The decree was signed by President Cristina Isabel Fernández de Kirchner, Cabinet Chief Aníbal Fernández, Interior Minister Florencio Randazzo, and Federal Planning Minister Julio De Vido.
According to the “scoring system”, drivers who lose all points for the first time will be suspended to drive for 60 days, while the suspension extends to 120 days for the second time all points are lost; and 180 for the third time.
