The city of San Carlos of Bariloche is one of the most well known tourist centers within Argentina. It was founded in May of 1902, joining with the Nahuel Huapi lake, and known for its architecture and beautiful landscapes.
Bariloche can be visited all year long. In the spring and summer it is possible to take part in all types of outdoor activities, and in the winter the snow converts Cathedral Hill, near the city, into one of the most important ski centers in South America.

The city has a first rate tourist infrastructure, and various offers in activities such as: horseback riding in the hills and areas surrounding the city, trekking, paragliding from Otto Hill, rafting in the Limay and Manso rivers, kayaking in rivers or lakes, cruising on mountain bikes on the paths of nearby hills, diving, and skiing in the winter.
The city itself is of great interest and should not be overlooked, from the Civic Hill and its medieval structures, to the Nahuel Huapi Cathedral, the Chapel of the Immaculate, the historic buildings and houses, and the Patagonia Museum. The numerous artisan shops and chocolate stores that sell exquisite chocolates intricately handcrafted deserve their own recognition.
If you prefer nautical excursions, there are many to choose from, including visiting islands and surrounding lakes such as the Lago Frias (the Cold Lake).
One of the main attractions is the Nahuel Huapi National Park, that was created in 1903, and is home to many forms of wildlife and spectacular flora, characterized by magnificent cypress and False Beech tree forests. Moreover, the Nahuel Huapi Park possesses countless signs of ancient Aborigine occupancy such as petroglyphs and rock paintings, some accessible to visitors.
